August
7 and August 20, 2008
Sponsor a Trash Box during the Navajo Nation Fair Parade September 6, 2008
In the spirit of the 2008 Navajo Nation Fair theme “Navajo Women— Our Strength, Our
Endurance” and “Mother Earth Pride” several local programs and organizations are working
together this year to launch an effort targeting the Navajo Nation Parade to reduce the amount
of trash that is left behind during and after the parade.
The plan will entail having trash containers located along the parade route sponsored by local
organizations with a designated individual who will make sure that the trash is contained and
bags are changed periodically to prevent overfilling. We will utilize monitored stations
throughout the five mile parade route to communicate this event. In addition, we want to re-
lease public announcements about this effort and educational messages to encourage the Navajo
public to put trash away. We will have a map of the route designating the locations where the
trash boxes will be located.
How can organizations help?
By sponsoring a trash box or two, your organization will help take care of a trash box(es)
during the parade. Responsibilities will include replacing trash bags, and arranging to have the
filled trash bags to the collection truck that will follow the parade procession. We will place the
trash boxes along the three-mile parade route on morning of September 6th before the parade
starts.
What is the benefit to you or your organization?
As a sponsoring organization, you are invited to provide an educational message on your
designated trash box. Your educational message will make a statement about your organization
that you care about the environment and keeping the Navajo Nation litter free. Also good for
improving public relations in the community.
